Christmas Fair
Overall, the Christmas fair was very successful and well attended. However, some lessons learnt from this years Christmas fair were:
i) Make sure that Mr Thom is liaised with
ii) In future borrow trestle tables from the Scouts as using classroom tables was time consuming. Anne Scott is the contact and an estate car would be necessary to transport the tables to the school.
iii) More people needed to set up event
iv) Glasses – Tesco glasses would be preferable as are easier to pack away after cleaning.
v) Block off rest of school building during the fair as children were running around the school unsupervised.
vi) Mulled wine was supplied for the parents but no juice was supplied for the children.
vii) The mince pies did not sell well but the cake was very popular.
viii) A collection point for dirty glasses/plates needed during the event.
ix) Price per table to be considered. £10 was taken for each table, in future possibly take £10/table or 10% of income generated if over £100.
x) The chocolate stall was very successful, however it would benefit from larger items and gifts.
Christmas Hampers
Was very successful and was an event that was easy to organise. Good response from parents with hand out in bag and with verbal reminder being given by Wendy Barrett to all classes.

Website Development
Fergus has stepped down as communications officer but continues as the communicator of emails received directly from the website (they go direct to him only). Vivienne confirmed that information regarding French/Spanish lessons, The Parent Council and The SPF has been posted on the web site. Vivienne also suggested that an introduction/profile to key people on the committees be posted on the web site. Louise McHugh suggested that it would be beneficial for the pre-school to have a page within the school’s website and she agreed to speak to Mrs Pirrie with a view to her contacting Vivienne to discuss further.
People are to be encouraged to sign up on the website for any updates, these will automatically be sent if they do so, including minutes of meetings, events etc.
Gün Orgun suggested that the children were involved more in the website with audio pods and text created and posted. This would help to get parents to use the website.
Red Nose Day – Friday 13th March
Traci Leven has organised, through consultation with Mrs Randall, to hold a joke competition for Red Nose Day. There would be a £1 entry fee, a form would be filled in with a joke and a drawing. Each class votes for their favourite joke and the pupil council make the final ‘best joke’ decision. SPS joke books will then be generated for sale at the summer fair. It was suggested that the children could also have a non uniform day and dress up in multi-coloured clothes.
Family Ceilidh
Date: 20th March
The Trossachs Ceilidh band has been booked at a cost of £320. Tickets will be sold at a cost of £5 for adults and £3 for children. This means that 40 adult and 40 children tickets need to be sold to cover the band cost. The maximum capacity of the hall is 150 people. Raffle of Scottish and Irish themed hampers will be held along with an auction of Scottish and Irish themed items – possible auctioneers suggested were Linda Barclay and Dave Barrett; Entertainment from pupils – piping and fiddling and possibly a dance demo; Bring your own wine; Home baking, Scottish/Irish themed, to be supplied for tables, Vivienne Mackay, Gün Orgun, Linda Barclay and Nicki Corrigan pledged home baking.
Rag Bag
This was previously a very successful fundraising activity. Gün advised that it would not raise as much in future as the initial collection generates more money. This will hopefully be carried out in March or April with the date to be confirmed. Traci will ask rag bag organisers if a container can be supplied so that clothing items/rags can be deposited all year round.
Summer Fair
Nicki Corrigan stepped down as organiser for summer fair but is available to help on the day. New coordinator needed – Linda Barclay put herself forward for this and agreed to contact Ruth Wilson as a potential partner for co-ordination.
Traci confirmed that the intended date of the SPS summer fair (23rd May) had been circulated to other village bodies for consideration in hosting a joint village Community Day or Gala Day event and she is waiting for feedback on this.
Ideas suggested for the summer fair were to have a running race to start the day, to involve the children in deciding activities and the theme of the day. Possible theme suggested as ‘North American’. The next meeting of the SPF will be specifically held to discuss the summer fair. Traci Leven is to pass on folder containing information of previous summer fairs to Linda Barclay.
Fair-trade Fashion Show
This has been rescheduled from April to the end of October to allow school to become more involved. Anne Scott will liaise with Morvan Bulloch regarding individual class involvement. There will be a back drop to be made, revamp of old clothes, decorations, saleable items, fair-trade stalls, parent models, lighting (previously done by Wendy Barrett’s in-law), dancing interlude – possibly break dancing and Dawn Murray is to do hair and makeup.
Anne suggested the possibility of getting sponsorship for the programme and of possibly designing T-shirts or sports T-shirts. Anne also raised the need for more stage pieces for the school.
A co-ordinator for the cat walk is needed, previously done by Wendy Ross.
Any other business: None
Date of next meeting:
3rd March, Kirkhouse 8pm with Louise McHugh to minute meeting, Linda Barclay to chair.
