Summer Fair
23 May
Lorna Ash, representing the Strathblanefield Community Development Council, spoke about the gala days that had previously taken place in the Community. She said that a survey had been conducted in the community to establish if they wanted a gala day. The results had been divided so it was suggested that the school fair and gala day could be run together. During previous gala days the Strathendrick Pipe Band had started a parade from the war memorial to the school. They had races, stalls, a tug-of-war, local football teams and barbecues. The last gala day was approximately 10 years ago.
Linda confirmed that she had arranged to attend each class to obtain ideas from the pupils.
The proposals so far for the day are as follows:-
10am -11am 5km Race for children. Children will receive prizes based on the amount of sponsor money raised. Committee to generate sponsor ideas for prizes. Linda stated that she had potentially secured funding of £15000 from Stirling Council for MUGA . She confirmed that if it could be demonstrated by July 2009 that there has been significant progress towards the securing of additional funds for the MUGA this would keep the grant alive. On that basis she was hoping to raise funds from the race for MUGA.
11am-2pm Summer Fair in school and grounds. The suggestion was to have a North American theme possibly with bucking brontos (2 uniform staff and usually outdoors), bouncy castle, skate ramp, candy floss, snow cones, popcorn and nachos. Linda agreed to source these and obtain costings. It was also suggested that there could be a car wash (manned by children) and that the community policeman, David McNally, could be contacted with a view to asking about police cars, fire engines, and bike engraving. He may also be able to offer local advice on the race and licensing. Louise agreed to contact him. It was also suggested that Strathblane Falconry could be contacted to ask if they would be prepared to do a display in return for the publicity. Louise agreed to contact the falconry also. In relation to the stalls it was suggested that second hand books, clothes (including school and dancing uniforms) and games could be popular . Other suggestions were a tombola, a stall selling the joke books, craft stalls, pot decorating and stone painting.
2pm – 5pm it was suggested that unsigned bands within the local area could play during this period
5pm – 10pm It was suggested that the CDT would organise this part of the event with the assistance of the SPF. It is anticipated that there will be a barbecue, marquee tent with bar and a live band all within the school and playground area. In order to do this it would be necessary to apply for a licence. It was suggested that the licence application should be until 11 pm to allow time for finishing drinks. Louise McHugh agreed to contact the licensing office of Stirling Council to clarify the restrictions that would apply and to obtain an application form for an Occasional Permission.
Linda suggested that instead of paying to take part in activities the attendees could purchase tickets which could be used throughout the day/evening. It was agreed that St John’s Ambulance would be contacted to request their attendance.

Linda said that she has instructed 3 businesses to carry out a survey. She will be focusing on MUGA over the next 8-10 weeks.
