SUMMER FAIR WITH AN AMERICAN FLAIR
SATURDAY, MAY 23RD, 2009
Come rain or shine, Strathblane Primary School will be the place to be on May 23rd. This year the Strathblane primary school fundraising committee are teaming up with the Strathblane Community Development Trust to organise an American themed Summer Fair for the residents of Strathblane and Blanefield.
It will be a full day event, held on the premises of Strathblane primary. The school site is a focal point of the community but the event is not just for families associated with the school. Instead, we aim to bring together the entire community and provide activities for many different segments of the population.
In the morning there will be a running race for children to help raise money for a community sports facility; in the early afternoon there will be a “4th of July Parade” with the children dressing up in American Theme costumes; during the day there will be stalls featuring local merchants, craft making, and games, together with inflatable attractions such as bouncy castles and a bucking bronco; in the late afternoon there will be rock bands performing in the Edmonston Hall; and in the evening there will be a children’s cinema; an evening band with broad appeal; sport activities; a beer tent and a BBQ.
We are looking for people of all ages to help create and co-ordinate various activities and events throughout this day of celebration. In particular, we are seeking an instructor, for a half an hour in the evening, to teach inline dancing; someone who would be prepared to dress as a native Indian and do a storytelling session on this theme and a person(s) who has some carpentry skills to create some of our games stalls. Many others are needed to organise and run small parts of the event.
If you are a local business or group and are interested in renting a stall or would simply like more information about the Summer Fair, please contact: Linda Barclay on 771 429 or at lindabarclaybritton@gmail.com
This is not an event to be missed! There will be more information in the next issue of the Blane and leading up to the event more information will be available around the village. We hope to see you there!
