News

Last week a parent contacted a Parent Council member after witnessing a car reversing and just missing a child as he crossed the road to school.
The parent council member reported this to Miss Logan and along with other P.C members and parents, Stirling council, Roads dept and Councillor Colin O’Brien were contacted.
This has highlighted a continuing problem with safe crossing areas for children and appropriately marked areas for cars to park.

The 2 issues raised;

The position of the yellow lines on Kirkburn Road allow parents to park right next to the gate. However the school gates have been repositioned in Summer 2008 and the yellow lines have not, therefore causing a great risk to crossing children.

The second concern is the shrubs which have overgrown outside of the library and have made impossible for cars and children to pass safely as views are inadequate.

On Saturday 26th of November as a result of Parent Council members and Parents efforts to highlight these areas of concern to Stirling Council, the shrubs were trimmed extensively as promised by Stirling Council.

Parents and Parent Council members are currently expressing the urgent need for the yellow markings to be repositioned and are in communcation with the Roads department. Even without these markings on the road Section 217 of of the Highway Code states;

217: DO NOT park your vehicle or trailer on the road where it would endanger, inconvenience or obstruct pedestrians or other road users. For example, do not stop

Near a School Entrance
Anywhere you would prevent access for Emergency Services
At or near a bus stop or taxi rank
On the approach to a level crossing
Opposite or within 10 metres (32 feet) of a junction, except in an authorised parking space
Near the brow of a hill or hump bridge
Opposite a traffic island or (if this would cause an obstruction) another parked vehicle
Where you would force other traffic to enter a tram lane
Where the kerb has been lowered to help wheelchair users
In front of an entrance to a property
On a bend.

If you are parking near the school please consider not parking in the small section next to the entrance gate, as even small cars can cause a big obstruction.

Please help us make it as safe as possible for our children to come and go to school.
